Kosovo closes border checkpoints with Albania amid fears of mass protests

The Kosovo government ordered all border crossing points with Albania to be blocked, creating long queues up to 3.5 km as Albanian authorities register those entering the country. The move aims to prevent diaspora protesters from reaching Tirana, with officials citing security concerns.

At the same time, protests in Tirana against the Zvërnec‑Sazan investment project have lost momentum. Demonstrators initially demanded the prime minister’s resignation and a technocratic government, but a lack of clear organization and representation led to dwindling participation and sporadic clashes, preventing the protest from becoming a sustained political force.
