Kosovo electricity imports jump 40% in May as thermal generation drops

In May 2026 Kosovo’s electricity sector recorded a sharp rise in imports, reaching 422.31 GWh – a 41.29% increase over the same month in 2025. At the same time, domestic generation from thermal power plants fell by 45.40% to 178.48 GWh.

Hydroelectric output grew 51.38% to 49.22 GWh, while wind and solar production rose 8.25% to 39.30 GWh. Overall electricity consumption rose 8.88% to 398.66 GWh, leaving gross electricity availability almost unchanged, down 0.41%.

Separately, the Kosovo Electricity Distribution Company (KEDS) announced planned maintenance works for Saturday, 18 July 2026, which will cause scheduled power outages in multiple localities across the Pristina region and other areas as listed in its notice.
