Kosovo energy sector faces Serbian grid dispute, scheduled outages

At an informal 2026 Regional Energy Council meeting in Pristina, Kosovo's minister of economy Artane Rizvanolli criticized Serbia for refusing direct communication with the regional transmission operator KOSTT, saying the Serbian stance places an unnecessary burden on consumers in Kosovo and the wider region. She reaffirmed Kosovo’s commitment to integrating its electricity market with the European Union, noting progress toward joining the EU internal energy market. EU delegation head Yolanda Garcia Mezquita highlighted the importance of accelerating integration for European security and highlighted ongoing verification steps.

Separately, Kosovo's electricity distribution company KEDS announced planned maintenance that will cause scheduled power interruptions in several neighborhoods of Prizren on Thursday. The outages are set for three one‑hour windows between 11:00 and 14:00, affecting streets such as Ismet Jashari – Kumanova, Kukësi, Sali Bytyqi and others, as well as local businesses, to allow preventive work and relay protection testing.
