Kosovo espionage case sparks debate over secret document

A document titled ‘Top sekret 2’, included in the espionage indictment against Fatmir Sheholli, has sparked significant religious and political debate in Kosovo. The document, which was allegedly found on Sheholli’s phone, claims that funds collected from Islamic embassies in Belgrade were intended for mosque construction in Kosovo to expand Islamic influence and create conditions serving Serbian interests.

The Islamic Community of Kosovo (BIK) has denied any links to the Serbian Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) mentioned in the document and is calling for authorities to clarify the document's authenticity and origin. While the Special Prosecution Office has presented the document as evidence in the case against Sheholli, it has not publicly confirmed whether there is proof that the document was actually authored by the BIA.

Sheholli faces charges of espionage and blackmail. The prosecution alleges he was recruited by the BIA to collect and transmit information regarding Kosovo’s political activities, security situation, and institutional functions. Sheholli remains in custody pending legal proceedings.
