Kosovo faces disinformation threat from coordinated fake profiles

Cybersecurity expert Halil Berisha has warned of a coordinated social media operation involving fake profiles aimed at inciting violence and division in Kosovo. This surge in suspicious activity coincides with the anticipation of a decision from the Special Court in The Hague.

Berisha claims the methodology used by these profiles mirrors tactics previously employed by Russian intelligence for influence campaigns and destabilization, including instances observed in the United States. He noted that this hybrid and cyber warfare is being coordinated by ‘troll farms’ often originating from Russia and its allies, such as Serbia.

The coordinated profiles reportedly spread disinformation by posting and commenting primarily on media outlets and influential figures. Berisha has urged citizens to remain cautious of dangerous disinformation and called on Kosovar institutions to monitor these high-risk profiles.
