Elvedin Peziq detained by Kosovo Police

Kosovo Police detained Elvedin Peziq, a controversial Islamic preacher from Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Vitomirica near Peja. Peziq was accompanied by another preacher, Mithad Qeman, who was released shortly after.

The detention occurred ahead of a planned event involving a book promotion. Authorities reportedly questioned Peziq regarding whether he had permission from the Islamic Community of Kosovo to hold the activity. Peziq, a self-identified Salafi preacher with a large social media following, has previously drawn criticism for controversial views, including statements regarding the role of women in society that were condemned by the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Organizers stated that Peziq entered Kosovo legally through the Kula border crossing with Bosnian documentation. Following the initial detention, Peziq was transferred to a police station in Pristina for identity verification and further investigation. Some reports suggest the detention may be linked to security concerns or allegations regarding the spread of specific ideologies.
