Kosovo police have reported a significant surge in domestic violence, with 2,052 cases recorded through September of this year. Of these incidents, 1,626 victims were women.

In a recent 24-hour period, ten cases of domestic violence were reported across various municipalities, including Prishtina, Fushë Kosovë, Peja, Kamenicë, Novobërdë, Deçan, and Shtime. These incidents involved physical assault, psychological abuse, and threats. Several suspects were arrested or detained by authorities, including cases involving assaults on spouses, children, and siblings. In one instance in Deçan, police seized an automatic weapon after a man reported to be committing psychological abuse was detained.

Legal experts note that under current law, third parties are also obligated to report witnessed violence. Sociologists suggest that factors such as mental health issues, the rise of psychoactive substances, and socio-economic instability contribute to the prevalence of these crimes.
