Violence against healthcare workers in Kosovo

Overview

The Kosovo Medical Chamber has expressed concern regarding the prevalence of unreported violence against medical personnel. Pleurat Sejdiu, head of the Chamber, stated that while healthcare workers are legally classified as official persons during their duties, many attacks are not being formally reported to the Chamber by staff or managers.

This lack of formal reporting has made the issue difficult to address. Recent documented incidents include a physical attack on an emergency doctor at Vushtrri Hospital and attacks on a nurse in both the Kalabria neighborhood and a family medicine center in Vitia. While Kosovo Police recorded 113 cases of “attack on an official person” this year, these figures encompass more than just medical staff.
