Kosovo prosecutors seek detention of nine suspects in Zubin-Potok war crimes case
The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo has filed a request for the detention of nine suspects in connection with the 'Intellectuals Group' case. The suspects are accused of war crimes against the civilian population involving the killing and disappearance of 23 civilians in Zubin-Potok during the 1999 conflict.
According to the prosecution, the victims—a group of professionals including doctors and teachers—were stopped, looted, tortured, and executed. The indictment further alleges that the suspects attempted to burn the victims' graves using gasoline and desecrated the remains.
Recent forensic investigations and exhumations in the villages of Kalludër e Vogël and Jabuka have uncovered human remains at three separate locations. Forensic experts believe these remains belong to at least 23 individuals, matching the number of people reported missing in the 1999 incident. DNA analysis is required to finalize the identification of the victims.
