Kosovo mass‑grave discovery at Kalluder, Zubin Potok

Human remains have been uncovered in the village of Kalluder, municipality of Zubin Potok, Kosovo. Forensic examinations confirmed the remains are of human origin and of forensic significance. Kosovo authorities – the Police, the Special Prosecutor’s Office, the Commission for Missing Persons, the Institute of Forensic Medicine and other agencies – have begun systematic excavations and DNA analysis to identify the victims. The site is suspected to contain the bodies of the 23 intellectuals abducted from Mitrovica on 19 April 1999, part of the roughly 1,600 people still missing from the 1998‑99 war. Special Prosecutor Blerim Isufaj visited the dig, warning that the identification process will take time and urging restraint in public statements. Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Interior Minister Xhelal Svecla have called for full cooperation, accusing Serbia of obstructing the investigation and demanding that Serbian state and military archives be opened. Kosovo police have arrested two Kosovo Serbs on suspicion of war‑crime involvement. The findings are being presented as a crucial step toward uncovering the fate of the war‑missing and bringing perpetrators to justice.
