Kosovo faces severe storm warning as authorities urge safety measures

The Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute (IHMK) issued an orange‑level (portokalli) alert for 22 July 2026, covering the entire territory. The forecast calls for local storms with hail, intense rain, strong winds, lightning and a high risk of flash floods. IHMK warned of potential damage to power and telecom networks, fires sparked by atmospheric discharges, and hazardous conditions for people and livestock.

Emergency agencies, including the Agency for Emergency Management (AME) and the Central Labor Inspectorate, issued safety instructions: stay indoors, avoid trees, metal structures and high‑voltage poles, protect vehicles and property, and drive cautiously on slick roads. Construction firms were told to inspect cranes and lifting equipment. The agencies remain on standby to respond throughout the day.

Authorities urged the public to follow official weather updates and heed all precautionary measures until the alert period ends at 23:59 GMT+2.
