Kosovo’s energy sector faces scheduled power cuts amid calls for state‑centric policy

The Electricity Distribution Company of Kosovo (KEDS) announced that on Friday, 10 July 2026, safety‑related maintenance will cause power interruptions in several municipalities, including Pristina, Drenas, Podujeva and surrounding areas. The outages are scheduled between 09:00 and 18:00, affecting specific low‑voltage lines to allow system upgrades and third‑party work.

Former parliamentarian Donika Kadaj‑Bujupi used a social‑media post to urge that Kosovo’s energy policies be guided by national interest rather than party politics. She highlighted the need for long‑term analysis, the exploitation of existing hydro‑electric reserves, and the adoption of modern technologies such as gas‑ification. Kadaj‑Bujupi cited the planned LNG terminal in Vlorë, Albania, and investments in wind and solar power as key pillars for diversifying Kosovo’s energy mix and achieving energy independence.
