Kostis Hadjidakis rapporteured EPP competitiveness resolution
During the European People's Party (EPP) Political Assembly held in Toulouse on September 28-29, the EPP approved a resolution on competitiveness. Kostis Hadjidakis, Greek Deputy Prime Minister and EPP Vice President, served as the rapporteur for the resolution.
Hadjidakis participated as a keynote speaker in a panel titled ‘Europe at a Crossroads: Prospects for Reindustrialization’. He emphasized that while the European Union has successfully established common fiscal rules to ensure responsibility, it has lacked similar decisiveness in addressing barriers to business competitiveness.
Key issues identified include high energy costs, excessive bureaucracy, the fragmentation of the Single Market, a lack of economies of scale, and Europe's lag in innovation and new technologies. Hadjidakis noted that while reports from Enrico Letta and Mario Draghi have identified both weaknesses and solutions, the primary challenge remains a matter of political will and implementation.
