Greek EU administrative and competitiveness initiatives

Overview

Greek Vice President Kostis Hadjidakis has engaged in multiple European Union initiatives focused on administrative reform and economic competitiveness.

Initially, Hadjidakis participated in a Brussels seminar to support an ‘Alliance for the Reduction of Bureaucracy’. This Austrian-led initiative aims to simplify legislation and reduce administrative burdens through ‘simplicity by design’. During the seminar, Hadjidakis highlighted Greece’s digital transformation, specifically the gov.gr platform, as a model for reducing bureaucracy.

Subsequently, acting as rapporteur for the European People's Party (EPP), Hadjidakis presented a resolution on competitiveness at the EPP Political Assembly in Toulouse. He argued that while the EU has established fiscal rules, it must now address barriers to business competitiveness, such as high energy costs, market fragmentation, and excessive bureaucracy, noting that progress depends on political will and implementation.
