Kovan house fire leads to evacuations and one hospitalization

A fire broke out at a two-storey landed property along Simon Lane in Kovan on the afternoon of Saturday, 5 September. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the blaze at approximately 3:00 PM.

Firefighters utilized three water jets to contain and extinguish the fire. The blaze caused partial damage to an adjacent house, including fallen roof tiles. As a precaution, police and firefighters evacuated approximately 30 people from neighboring homes.

One resident from a neighboring unit was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to Singapore General Hospital. Additionally, a firefighter sustained a sprained right ankle during the operation but did not require hospital conveyance. SCDF personnel subsequently performed damping-down work to mitigate the risk of reignition.
