Zakopanka traffic relief plan adds dozens of kilometres of local roads

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) is preparing a project to build a network of local roads parallel to the heavily congested DK7, known as the Zakopanka. Thirteen firms submitted offers: ten for the Kraków‑Głogoczów section and three for the Głogoczów‑Myślenice stretch. The plan calls for widening about 21.4 km of existing local roads to 6 m and constructing roughly 4.5 km of new sections, at a total budget of around 4.5 million zł for the first segment and 2.5 million zł for the second. The new routes will divert local traffic away from the main highway, separating it from transit and tourist flows and improving safety and travel times for residents of villages along the corridor. The initiative is coordinated with the ongoing upgrades of the S7 expressway and the future S52 (Beskidzką Drogę Integracyjną), which will further increase traffic on the Zakopanka, making the local‑road network a crucial element of the region’s transport strategy.
