KPDN Terengganu foils subsidized oil smuggling attempt
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Terengganu successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle 3.04 tonnes of subsidized packet cooking oil, valued at RM103,500, to a neighboring country. During a raid in Bukit Diman, Ajil, authorities discovered 200 boxes of oil stored in a three-tonne cargo truck parked in front of an unpermitted house. Four individuals, including one woman, were detained, and a Perodua Bezza was seized as part of the investigation.
In a separate initiative to promote consumer transparency, KPDN has introduced self-weighing kiosks at Pasar Payang 2. This measure is part of the ‘KPDN-Compliant Market’ program, allowing over 200 traders and visitors to verify the accuracy of goods' weights. The program also includes the provision of price tags to traders and collaborative advocacy with various agencies to ensure legal compliance, food hygiene, and tourism standards.
