Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq detained in KPK student admission bribery sting

The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation involving officials at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), resulting in the arrest of 14 individuals. The operation, which took place in Purwokerto and Jakarta, targeted suspected bribery and extortion related to the university's new student admissions process.

Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq has been officially named a suspect and detained. Other high-ranking officials detained include Vice Rector of Academic Affairs Prof. Noor Farid and Vice Rector of Student Affairs Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo. Investigations suggest that Sodiq used a relative, MYN, to manage illicit funds, including the purchase of land assets. Additionally, Vice Rector Norman Arie Prayogo is accused of extorting 650 million rupiah from parents seeking admission to the Faculty of Medicine.

KPK officials seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash as evidence. The agency expressed deep concern regarding corruption within educational institutions, noting that such transactional practices undermine the integrity of the student selection process.
