KPK declines ethical action against officer in Pemalang extortion case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced it will not pursue ethical sanctions against Setya Budi Dias (DIS), a police officer previously stationed at the KPK, following his involvement in an extortion case involving the Pemalang Regency Government. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that because Dias is no longer an official member of the commission, the matter falls outside the jurisdiction of the KPK's ethics enforcement or Supervisory Board. However, the agency is conducting an evaluation of its administrative business processes to prevent similar leaks of investigative information.

The case stems from a sting operation conducted on July 28, 2026, which resulted in the arrest of 21 individuals, including Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro. The investigation identified two clusters of extortion: one involving the Regent and his associate, Mohamad Haris, and another involving Setya Budi Dias and his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, who allegedly used leaked investigative information to extort the Regent.

Separately, during the 81st Indonesian Independence Day ceremony, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto addressed staff, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining integrity, professionalism, and independence to preserve public trust in the institution.
