Dito Ariotedjo testifies in Hajj quota corruption trial
Former Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo testified in the Jakarta Corruption Court regarding the 2023-2024 additional Hajj quota corruption case. The case involves an additional 20,000 Hajj quotas provided by Saudi Arabia to Indonesia and is alleged to have caused state losses of approximately Rp622 billion.
Dito testified that former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was not involved in the initial discussions between former President Joko Widodo and Saudi Arabian leadership in October 2023. Dito stated that the discussion regarding the additional quota occurred spontaneously during a lunch meeting and was not part of the main bilateral agenda. He noted that the Ministry of Religious Affairs was represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during those technical discussions.
Defense lawyers for defendant Ishfah Abidal Aziz have requested that former President Joko Widodo be summoned to testify, arguing he possesses detailed knowledge of the visit that resulted in the additional quota.
