Unsoed Rector named suspect in KPK student admission corruption case
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Akhmad Sodiq, the Rector of Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed), as a suspect in a corruption case involving student admissions. The investigation centers on allegations of extortion and bribery during the selection process for new students, specifically targeting the Faculty of Medicine.
KPK officials reported that a demand for Rp 650 million was made to the parents of a prospective student. In addition to the Rector, five other individuals have been named suspects, including Vice Rector III Norman Arie Prayoga, Academic Head Eko Sumanto, and three private sector intermediaries. The corruption scheme allegedly involved the misuse of authority to facilitate admissions in exchange for money.
In response to the legal proceedings, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology has appointed Professor Ali Rokhman as the Acting Rector of Unsoed to ensure academic and administrative stability. KPK investigators have also seized approximately 60 pieces of evidence, including various documents, from the university's Rectorate building.
