DPR Commission III accelerates Asset Forfeiture Bill discussions
Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) is intensifying discussions on the Asset Forfeiture Bill to expedite its completion. The commission is currently conducting Public Hearings (RDPU) during the recess period to gather input from various stakeholders, with sessions planned to run through November 11, 2026.
Chairman of Commission III Habiburokhman stated that the commission has already held between 58 and 60 RDPUs and expects to involve approximately 80 elements of society in total. The goal is to ensure the legislation is tailored to national needs rather than simply following international trends.
Legal experts and practitioners have provided specific recommendations during these hearings. Amin Fahrudin, a legal practitioner, urged the inclusion of value-based confiscation mechanisms to recover remaining state losses, citing significant discrepancies between state audit losses and court-ordered restitution in major corruption cases.
Other discussions involve ensuring the bill does not become a tool for power abuse and provides legal certainty for third parties acting in good faith. While previous targets aimed for ratification by December 15, 2026, Vice Chairman Ahmad Sahroni expressed hope that the process could be completed even sooner.
