KPK tightens oversight of university admissions following Unsoed corruption case

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued a circular to tighten oversight of the independent selection paths at state universities to prevent bribery and illegal interventions. This move follows a sting operation at Universitas Jenderal Soedirman (Unsoed), where the Rector, Prof. Akhmad Sodiq, and Vice Rector, Prof. Norman Arie Prayogo, were named suspects in a corruption case involving new student admissions.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto noted that the independent selection mechanism is the most vulnerable to irregularities. Furthermore, KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo suggested that such corruption practices may not be isolated to Unsoed or Universitas Lampung (Unila), but could potentially occur at other campuses. The commission has urged the public to report any suspected corruption and called on higher education institutions to implement concrete systemic improvements to ensure integrity in the admissions process.
