Netflix to give KPop Demon Hunters 2 broad global theatrical release

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has announced that the sequel to the animated hit ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ will receive a broad, global theatrical release. This marks a strategic shift for the streaming giant, moving away from its previous model of direct-to-streaming releases for major titles in favor of utilizing cinema windows for high-demand family films.

The decision follows the massive success of the original film, which recorded over 325 million views in its first 90 days and demonstrated significant box office potential through special sing-along screenings. Sarandos noted that family-oriented films benefit from a large theatrical presence due to their potential for repeat viewings.

While an official release date has not been confirmed, industry reports suggest the sequel could arrive in 2029. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are expected to return for the project, which will continue to explore the universe of the K-pop group HUNTR/X.
