KPSC recruitment scam: CID uncovers three-stage fraud network

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has uncovered a three-stage fraud network involved in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment scam. The investigation into the veterinary officer recruitment alleges that the scheme involved leaking examination questions, manipulating OMR answer sheets to inflate scores, and influencing the final interview and recruitment process.

Key figures identified in the probe include IAS officer and KPSC Controller of Examinations Gyanendra Kumar and alleged middleman Basavaraj Kannale. Investigators found that candidates allegedly paid for access to model questions and were housed in resorts across Bengaluru, Tumakuru, and Andhra Pradesh to prepare answers before being transported to exam centers.

Further findings suggest the fraud extended to the interview stage, where scores were reportedly matched to ensure specific candidates received appointment orders. The CID has also seized hall tickets linked to the 2025 B Group recruitment examination, suggesting the racket may involve additional recruitment cycles.

Regarding Gyanendra Kumar, the CID reported that he allegedly received real-time updates from influential individuals to evade an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe. His movements included traveling from Bengaluru to Delhi and Noida, a brief stay in Sri Lanka, and eventually returning to a resort near Kempegowda International Airport before appearing for CID questioning.
