Krafton announces PUBG: DED. NET with roguelite mechanics
Krafton has announced PUBG: DED. NET, a new spinoff that blends battle royale gameplay with roguelite progression. Developed by the Madison-based PUBG studio, the title features a 1990s-inspired aesthetic described as “Grunge House,” drawing influence from 90s alternative rock and cult cinema.
Unlike the original PUBG, DED. NET utilizes a progression system where character status and abilities persist across multiple matches. A single challenge session is expected to span five to seven matches. Players can select from various characters and build tactical lineups involving assault, support, or interference roles. The game also introduces a trade-off mechanic where powerful abilities may come with negative side effects, such as reduced mobility or weapon handling issues.
Creative director Dave Curd stated that the development team aims to create an evocative experience that players will either “love or hate,” rather than a product designed for the mass market. Curd argued that attempting to please everyone can be “box office poison,” expressing a preference for building a dedicated fandom through unique, divisive gameplay and storytelling.
