Kraków football clubs face divergent futures in I Liga

Wisła Kraków, after securing promotion to Poland’s top division, is planning a celebration but faces bureaucratic hurdles. President Jarosław Królewski said the club must obtain permits and resolve access to the historic Sukiennice market before any public festivities can take place. The first likely celebration is tied to a match against Pogonią Siedlce on 24 May, pending completion of formal requirements.

Meanwhile, fellow I Liga side Wieczysta Kraków is confronting the possibility of withdrawing from the league next season. Although no official decision has been announced, reports suggest club owner Wojciech Kwiecień hinted at a potential move to a lower division. Kwiecień denied any meeting with players, stating, “Nie było żadnego spotkania z piłkarzami. Nie wiem, po co ktoś takie informacje przekazuje.” If Wieczysta steps down, it would affect promotion play‑offs and relegation slots across the top three tiers of Polish football.
