Kraków holds extraordinary mayoral elections

Kraków is holding extraordinary elections for mayor on September 27, 2027, following a referendum that removed the previous mayor, Aleksander Miszalski. Seven candidates are officially running, though eight names appear on the ballot due to the withdrawal of Jan Hoffman shortly before the vote.

Recent polling from IBRiS and OGB suggests a likely second round of voting, as no candidate is expected to secure more than 50 percent of the vote. The two leading candidates identified in polls are Łukasz Gibała, representing the 'Kraków dla Mieszkańców' committee, and Monika Piątkowska, supported by Koalicja Obywatelska and PSL. Other notable candidates include Michał Drewnicki from PiS and Michał Klimek from Konfederacja Korony.

During the campaign, candidate Michał Klimek has drawn attention for his controversial remarks regarding the war in Ukraine and the impact of Ukrainian refugees on the social system.
