Łukasz Gibała wins Kraków mayoral election

Łukasz Gibała, leader of the ‘Kraków for Residents’ association, has won the extraordinary mayoral election in Kraków. According to exit polls from Ipsos, Gibała secured approximately 61% of the vote, while his opponent, Senator Monika Piątkowska, received 39%. Other polling data, such as from OGB, suggested even higher margins for Gibała, ranging up to 64.1%.

This victory follows a May referendum in which residents voted to recall former president Aleksander Miszalski. Gibała, running as an independent candidate, has previously made three unsuccessful attempts to secure the presidency. His campaign focused on issues such as city debt, municipal company management, and the Clean Transport Zone.

Official results are expected to confirm the decisive lead. Gibała has expressed his intention to work for the benefit of the city and address the difficult budgetary situation facing Kraków.
