Kraków mayoral election faces legal disputes and campaign controversies

The mayoral election campaign in Kraków is facing increasing legal and administrative tensions between candidates Monika Piątkowska and Łukasz Gibała. A District Court in Kraków has ordered Gibała to issue a correction on social media and RMF FM regarding false claims he made about six Civic Coalition councilors. The ruling, which is not yet final, prohibits him from repeating the information.

Simultaneously, acting president Stanisław Kracik has called on both campaigns to remove election posters that were placed on public infrastructure without proper consent from property managers. He set a deadline of October 5 for the committees to review and remove unauthorized materials.

Further controversy has emerged regarding campaign funding and privacy. Piątkowska faced accusations of “political corruption” after a video showed her alongside Minister Jakub Rutnicki, where she thanked him for over 30 million PLN in infrastructure support for the city. Additionally, Piątkowska announced she would pursue legal action after unknown individuals allegedly observed and attempted to photograph her son near his residence, stating that the boundary between political dispute and family privacy had been crossed.
