Kraków supporter death sparks investigation and club statements
A 36-year-old Hutnik Kraków supporter, known as 'Yankes', died in an ambulance following a brutal assault in the Nowa Huta district of Kraków. The attack, which occurred during the night of August 20-21, involved a group of approximately five individuals using blunt force and sharp tools.
Police have detained nine people in connection with the incident, though no formal charges have been filed at this stage as investigators analyze surveillance footage and evidence. The victim leaves behind a five-year-old daughter.
Wisła Kraków has issued a strong statement condemning the violence and distancing the club and its community from the actions of the individuals involved. The club emphasized that using its symbols or declaring support does not represent the institution and that violence has no place in football culture.
In response to the tragedy, Lukas Podolski, owner of Górnik Zabrze, expressed deep shock and announced that the club will provide financial support to the victim's family by donating the proceeds from the guest sector of a match against Wisła Kraków.
