Kratochvíle Castle hosts large-scale emergency response drill

Emergency services in the Czech Republic conducted a large-scale complex training exercise at Kratochvíle Castle to test coordination during mass-casualty events.

The drill simulated an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device in the castle courtyard, resulting in dozens or even a hundred simulated casualties. The scenario escalated to include an armed perpetrator who took a visitor hostage and threatened the use of a second bomb.

Police, firefighters, paramedics, and specialized tactical units participated in the exercise. The operation involved evacuating visitors, establishing danger zones, treating the wounded, and neutralizing the perpetrator and the secondary explosive device. According to South Bohemian Police spokesperson Jiří Matzner, the exercise was designed to verify cooperation between various services during extraordinary incidents involving both high casualty counts and armed threats.
