Czech emergency services tactical drills

Overview

Emergency services in the Czech Republic have conducted a series of large-scale tactical exercises to test coordination during mass-casualty events.

In late September, authorities in Děčín simulated a major railway accident involving a passenger train derailment with approximately 60 casualties. The drill tested the Integrated Rescue System, involving fire protection units, police, and medical crews, as well as the establishment of an assistance center for passengers.

In early October, a complex training exercise was held at Kratochvíle Castle. This scenario simulated an improvised explosive device explosion and an armed perpetrator taking a hostage. The exercise required police, firefighters, and specialized tactical units to manage evacuations, treat simulated casualties, and neutralize threats.

On October 15, the Litoměřice Regional Department of the Police, in cooperation with the Integrated Rescue System (IZS), conducted a drill at Straškov-Vodochody Elementary School. The exercise focused on managing an ‘AMOK’ type event, simulating an attack by an armed perpetrator in a school setting. The simulation involved over 100 participants, including 63 members of the IZS and 45 volunteers.

On October 22, drills continued in Trutnov, where municipal and state police, firefighters, and medical teams simulated a response to two active shooters at a school. This exercise tested inter-agency communication, the use of panic buttons, and patrol coordination to secure buildings and protect individuals in classrooms.
