Krefeld apartment fire results in one fatality

A woman died following an apartment fire in the center of Krefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, on Saturday morning. Emergency services were alerted to smoke developing in a multi-family residential building on Mittelstraße at approximately 9:20 a.m.

Firefighters discovered the woman on the first floor with life-threatening burns. Despite immediate medical intervention by emergency doctors and paramedics at the scene, she succumbed to her injuries.

The fire was contained to a limited area and was quickly brought under control. Fire crews used high-performance fans to clear smoke from the building and inspected adjacent rooms. No other injuries were reported. Criminal investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire.
