Kremlin Foreign Minister Lavrov Demands Clarity on US Role in Ukraine Conflict
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the Kremlin is “in the dark” and called for “clarity” on the United States’ role in efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Lavrov claimed that US Secretary of State Mark Rubio’s statement that no agreement was reached at the August 15 Alaska summit between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin raises questions about US intentions.
At the same time, a group of hard‑line war supporters urged President Putin to abandon US‑mediated talks and consider a nuclear strike on Ukraine, questioning why “we don’t use the nuclear weapons our ancestors built for this purpose.” The supporters cited Rubio’s comment that “there was only a proposal, but no agreement was reached,” and warned of escalating attacks on Russian infrastructure.
Both narratives reflect growing Russian frustration with perceived US duplicity and highlight internal pressure on Moscow to intensify its military campaign against Ukraine.
