Kremlin maintains stance on Ukraine, seeking lasting peace over ceasefire

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia’s position regarding the conflict in Ukraine remains unchanged, emphasizing the need for a lasting peace rather than a temporary ceasefire. Peskov noted that a final settlement of the Ukrainian issue is impossible without the presence and participation of representatives from Kyiv to make responsible decisions.

This comes amid international diplomatic efforts, including multilateral talks in Oslo involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. While Zelenskyy has expressed a desire for peace and supported U.S. positions on energy sector ceasefires, Russia has declined such proposals.

Additionally, discussions regarding the potential for a trilateral meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping have been noted, which may address nuclear issues and the war in Ukraine.
