Kresna Pass road roller accident blocks traffic on Bulgarian highway

A heavy road roller fell from a transport platform at kilometre 391 on the I‑1 (E‑79) highway near the Kresna Pass in Bulgaria, completely blocking traffic in both directions. The fallen roller struck a passing light vehicle, causing serious material damage but no severe injuries; the driver was examined by medical staff. Police and road‑infrastructure crews redirected vehicles and cleared the blockage, restoring normal flow after a kilometre‑long traffic jam. The incident disrupted the main route to the Greek border crossing at Kulata, prompting temporary diversions through the Simitli pass.

Authorities from the Road Police and the Road Infrastructure Agency coordinated the response, ensuring safety and reopening the road once the roller was removed.
