Krosno Airport to undergo 44.4 million PLN expansion

The city of Krosno is preparing a project to expand and modernize its airport with an estimated investment of over 44.4 million PLN. The initiative, titled ‘Increasing the resilience of regional transport infrastructure through the expansion of the Krosno airport’, aims to strengthen regional transport security and provide a backup facility for the Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in the event of emergencies or infrastructure damage.

Key technical upgrades include extending the runway to 2,000 meters in length and 30 meters in width, with specific sections widened to 45 meters to allow aircraft to turn around. The project also involves constructing new taxiways, upgrading navigational lighting, and installing water, sewage, and oil separator systems. Additionally, the airport will be equipped with a radar and an anti-drone system.

Beyond transport logistics, the expansion is designed to foster the aviation and drone technology sectors. In collaboration with the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Krosno, an autonomous 5G network has been launched on-site to support drone research and the establishment of a Drone Competence Center. The local government has also signed letters of intent with Territorial Defense Forces (WOT) brigades to use the facility for drone operator training. Authorities have clarified that the site is not intended for permanent military basing or regular civilian passenger flights.
