Kässbohrer and Scania unveil new heavy-duty vehicle technologies at IAA 2026
At the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition, Kässbohrer and Scania showcased new technologies aimed at increasing efficiency and range for heavy-duty transport.
Kässbohrer presented ten new vehicles, including the K. SSL 33 E, a 33 m³ non-tipping cement silo designed for electric tractors. The silo features an electric compressor and a lightweight design intended to offset the weight of electric vehicle batteries, potentially recovering 44% of the payload capacity typically lost when using electric motors. The company has invested 46 million euros in research and development over the last five years to support these innovations.
Scania introduced updates to its R and S series through the ‘Dynamic’ configuration, which improves aerodynamics, safety, and cabin design for both internal combustion and battery-electric vehicles. Additionally, Scania unveiled an electric configuration capable of a 720 km range. This is achieved by adding battery packs behind the cab in combination with the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and utilizing an aerodynamic front end to reduce energy consumption.
