KT implements 5G network slicing for safety at Seoul fireworks festival

KT applied 5G Standalone (SA) network slicing technology to manage safety during the Seoul International Fireworks Festival 2026. As the official technical sponsor, the company operated 25 wireless CCTV cameras and 10 emergency communication devices for safety personnel across the Yeouido and Ichon Hangang Park areas.

Network slicing allows a single physical network to be divided into multiple virtual networks, providing dedicated communication resources for specific services. This ensures that even when general user data traffic surges due to large crowds, critical safety functions—such as real-time high-capacity video transmission from CCTVs to the command center and emergency communications—remain stable and uninterrupted.

KT, which currently operates the only 5G SA commercial network among South Korea's three major mobile carriers, aims to expand the use of this technology to industrial sites and public safety sectors. This follows a previous implementation during the Gwanghwamun World Cup street cheering event, where the technology was used for voice and data communication.
