Kuala Lumpur police hunt suspect in petrol attack on woman

Police in Kuala Lumpur have launched a special operation to apprehend an unidentified man who attacked a 62-year-old woman in Taman Pusat Kepong on Sunday, August 9. The victim, a counter attendant at a number forecast outlet, was doused with a petrol-like liquid and set on fire.

The victim sustained burns to approximately 50% of her body and was transported to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition. Preliminary investigations by the Sentul district police suggest the victim had no known enemies and had not received prior threats. The motive for the attack remains unknown.

Forensic teams have collected DNA samples and other evidence from the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous means. Kepong Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng has offered a RM5,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest and has urged the public not to confront the individual themselves.
