Overview

On August 9, 2026, a 62-year-old woman was attacked in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, after being doused with a petrol-like liquid and set on fire. The victim, a counter attendant at a number forecast outlet, sustained burns to approximately 50% of her body and was hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

Following a police investigation, a 59-year-old e-hailing driver was arrested in connection with the assault. Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that the suspect admitted to the act, citing dissatisfaction with the victim. Authorities seized a motorcycle, clothing, a helmet, and a bottle containing suspected petrol. The suspect has been remanded for seven days under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
