Kuching International Airport ceiling collapses following storm
Severe storms in the Kuching region caused significant infrastructure damage, including a ceiling collapse at Kuching International Airport (KIA). Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) reported that the collapse occurred in the inner lane of the airport’s pick-up and drop-off area on Tuesday afternoon. While the area has been secured for repairs, airport operations and flight schedules remained unaffected.
The storm also caused structural damage in residential areas, tearing roofing sheets from an apartment block in Tabuan Dayak and damaging at least one nearby home. Additionally, heavy rain and strong winds led to fallen trees in the Kuching and Samarahan divisions. Firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to clear a fallen tree obstructing Jalan Stutong near the BDC and Saradise areas to restore road access and ensure motorist safety.
