Kudret Özersay pledges regulation for ITEM Law property victims

Kudret Özersay, leader of the People's Party (HP), has pledged to implement regulatory changes to address grievances related to the ITEM Law. During village visits, Özersay highlighted the ongoing issues faced by citizens holding unused equivalent property points from assets left in Southern Cyprus after 1974.

Özersay stated that many individuals have been unable to claim equivalent property through previously opened packages, leading to long-term victimization. He also noted that certain properties under the ITEM Law have been utilized for different purposes via Council of Ministers' decisions.

As a solution, the People's Party proposes a long-term leasing model. Under this plan, lands currently leased by the state for various purposes would be made available to Southern migrants with equivalent points through long-term leases at symbolic rates. This model aims to provide citizens with income from these properties without requiring the direct issuance of title deeds.
