Macedonia seizes 40 tonnes of marijuana and revokes 13 medical cannabis licences

The Macedonian government ordered the confiscation of 13 licences issued for the cultivation of medical cannabis after inspections uncovered numerous legal violations. In a related operation, authorities seized about 40 tonnes of marijuana from licensed producers, following earlier seizures of 5 tonnes in Serbia that were suspected to have originated from North Macedonia. The Ministry of Health announced that a new inter‑institutional working group will be created to draft amendments to the country’s drug legislation.

The seizures are part of a broader crackdown on illicit use of medically‑licensed cannabis, with the government signalling further legal reforms to prevent future abuse.
