A magnitude 3.8 earthquake occurred on August 19, 2026, at approximately 7:10 AM, centered in the Amakusa and Ashikita regions of Kumamoto Prefecture. The earthquake had an estimated depth of 10 kilometers.
The strongest shaking, a seismic intensity of 3, was recorded in Yatsushiro, Uto, and Uki cities within Kumamoto Prefecture. Other areas in Kumamoto, Nagasaki, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima also experienced tremors. There is no threat of a tsunami resulting from this seismic event.
