Kumamoto earthquake impacts 53.9% of Kyushu companies

A survey by Teikoku Databank regarding the July 2026 Kumamoto earthquake reveals that 15.7% of companies nationwide have been affected, with the impact rising to 53.9% in the Kyushu region. Reported issues include warehouse damage, retail closures, delivery delays, and logistics disruptions caused by road closures and production decreases.

In response to these supply chain vulnerabilities, 84.6% of surveyed companies intend to strengthen their disaster prevention measures. The most common priorities include improving internal communication networks (45.0%), establishing evacuation manuals (38.5%), and formalizing internal response systems (37.8%). Companies are also focusing on securing emergency supplies such as drinking water and food.
