Kumamoto earthquake recovery: Municipalities receive news database support

Following the Reiwa 8 Kumamoto Earthquake, Electronic Library Co., Ltd. (ELNET) has announced the free provision of its ‘EL Database’ to affected municipalities in Kumamoto Prefecture. The service, which allows for comprehensive searches across approximately 100 national and local newspapers, will be available to these local governments until the end of March 2027. The initiative aims to help officials quickly gather case studies regarding disaster recovery, prevention, and livelihood reconstruction from other regions to assist in policy planning.

In Mashiki Town, local authorities are managing various post-earthquake recovery measures. Recent updates from the town include protocols for processing disaster-related waste, emergency repair support for damaged homes, and the postponement or exemption of medical insurance payments for affected residents. Additionally, the town has issued notices regarding changes to childcare fees and the temporary relocation of community facilities.
