Kumamoto earthquake relief drives launch donation boxes across Japan

Following the magnitude‑7 earthquake that struck Kumamoto in late July, three major convenience‑store chains – Seven‑Eleven, FamilyMart and Lawson – began accepting disaster‑relief donations at selected stores from July 29. Boxes are placed beside cash registers, with Seven‑Eleven rolling them out nationwide (excluding a few locations), FamilyMart collecting donations until August 25, and Lawson until August 31. Some stores also allow mileage points to be donated.

In parallel, Fukuoka Prefecture and the cities of Fukuoka and Kurume have installed donation boxes in government offices, health‑welfare centers and other public venues. The prefectural boxes will accept contributions until March 2027, while the city boxes remain open until October 31. All funds are earmarked for delivery to Kumamoto’s affected municipalities.
