Kumamoto earthquake relief measures announced for victims

Following the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, various support measures are being implemented for affected residents in Kumamoto Prefecture.

The Kumamoto Prefecture Administrative Scrivener Association has announced free assistance for applying for ‘disaster victim certificates.’ Starting August 25, 2026, the association will support online applications via smartphone or computer and may provide proxy application services for those unable to apply themselves due to age, illness, injury, or evacuation status.

Additionally, Remixpoint, Inc. is offering special measures for electricity customers in areas where the Disaster Relief Act has been applied. These measures include a one-month extension on payment deadlines for electricity bills from June to September 2026. The company will also waive electricity charges for up to six months for customers who have been unable to use electricity since the disaster, and will waive portions of basic charges for unusable equipment through January 2027.
